Work your net!

Everything revolves around your network. I heard this phrase in talking to someone “Your net worth is the sum of the people’s abilities in your network!” I thought about this for a while and said to myself, this requires some deep reflection and charting. It all starts from the time you are born, the bunch of people you know, the friends you make and where you go to work. Slowly but surely it is reshaping your thinking and your likes and dislikes. Unless you specifi c ally set aside some time to think about what your priorities are , you will not be able to achieve them. So there will be a nagging feeling about not having done something that is crucial to your core strength! Realize your core strength and keep working at it to push yourself higher. Don’t strangle other’s passions for your growth, grow together and become wiser. Above all, value your self worth, for that is what carries you to greater heights. If you do not see yourself as a star, nobody else would. Do some activities t

Responsive vs Reactive

Image
What is the difference you may ask? But there is a huge difference. Responsiveness includes fore-thinking and planning for any such event that happens in the future. If a natural calamity happens and you have supplies ready that is responsiveness. Being responsive is a great trait for all the leaders to have in the face of calamity. You react first then provide appropriate response to the task in hand. Reactiveness is taking action after the event has happened. If a building collapses and then rescue team comes and helps the people that is reactiveness. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction, the Newton's third law. If you react to all the actions that are happening around you, you will only be reacting and forget to take action. Same with life, taking action is important rather than reacting. Reaction is the first response to an event, but responsiveness is preparing for future events of the same type. Be reactive at first, but responsive in the long run!

What runs in your mind when you are painting?

Image
A picture is worth a thousand words! How true? There are times when  the picture can depict the entire life of the person in a jiffy. The point is to savour the present moment without being attached to past or dreaming about the future moments. The other day I went running on a hiking trail, I was struck by the serenity of the environment and the quietness of the water (lake). I stopped to look around and enjoy the nature in it's surroundings. The feeling was overwhelming and relaxing. It is important to take regular breaks and keep moving around to keep the mind functioning at it's best.  The  mild whispering of the wind through the blades of grass was enticing to sit down and take note. The water's mild ripples created waves in my mind and thoughts of goodness blossomed through the morning. The feeling was great! The same feeling is re-created when you are doing something that you like to do! Painting has that ability to tune your mind to calmness and relaxation and reac

Resilience: Keep doing the work and you are bound to be resilient!

Image
As the picture captured from the ASQ quality progress publication above shows, the most difficult part is standing through criticism at work. Things can go wrong, the most important aspect is how do we bounce back. Resilience is bouncing back from a difficult loss or failure.   There are multiple ways to develop resilience. Long distance runners and professional athletes have loads of resilience built into them. It takes a lot of mind training to reach the point where you can effortlessly blend the task of acceptance of loss.  As you know the Pareto charts are used by quality groups in an organization to track the well being of the project. In the cartoon skit above, the pareto head is humanized to teach soft skills to users. There comes the problem! A human can accept and discuss the flaws of lot many people around him, but find it difficult to accept one's own flaws and shortcomings. The world is a mirror and you are surrounded by people of your own kind for the most part. It

The importance of sleep at day's end!

Image
I cannot stress enough the importance of sleep at the end of the day. The week is so eventful that we need the well-deserved rest everyday. Sacrifice the sleep and spoil your week ahead, just like "Spare the rod and spoil the child". The difference a well-rested sleep can do to our bodies is difficult to measure but easy to experience. No more grumpiness and anger! It controls mood fluctuations and tiredness. The advantages are as follows: acronym ( FEELING ) 1. F eeling deeply rested and fresh 2. E nthusiasm to take up the most difficult tasks. 3. E xtra drive to finish tasks. 4. L ess frustration when a task is not completed. 5. I nspiring others to be energetic. 6. N eeding no stimulation to continue through the day.  7. G rasping what is new. The following steps are recommended: ( NEW ) 1. N o devices during the sleep. 2. E qual periods of rest each weekday. 3. W eed out bad thoughts during the day. Make sure your body gets the recommended rest daily at the same interval

Vaccinated?

Image
The question that has been plaguing us for the past year "Are you vaccinated?" will finally be a thing of the past for most people by end of this month. Being vaccinated does not solve all the problems. As per the diagram above gathered from the US census data from 2010, it is clear if we get 70% of people vaccinated completely, we may have less chance of infection and seeing another wave. How do we get the millions of people to go back to work fearlessly? This will be an uphill battle unless we have strict rules followed at the workplace and keep checking for new infections and strains of the virus. But between "U" and "I" we can reduce the incidence and the risk by following some simple hyegenic practices.  1. Wear a mask   2. Wash your hands   3. Use minimal resources to minimize the trips to the store.  How do we change the mindset to believe in the abundance and the courage to mingle? The human mind is conditioned to think that my friends and my re
