The conundrum of living a meaningful life

The conundrum of living a meaningful life

We are always striving to live a better life, serving a higher purpose in the process. Engineering and arts are very similar in their professions. There is always a chance of branching out in a new direction.

You can carve your niche in different ways in both the fields. First there is the necessity to earn a living. If earning a living can also bring in fun that would be wonderful! But there are so many obstacles in that path. It is never too easy to walk on glass pieces with a smile! We have to pull our courage and strength together to get through this portion. Lots of management skills are developed as we try to balance the home and the work life and the process of earning a living and having it all! No wonder you see so many people having it all and pulling it through. Moving forward and pushing through all the obstacles is the only way out of this tunnel. But there is one sacrifice that people make in the process that is the happiness in daily chores and observing the little things of life. We are drawn into the quick sand of countless responsibilities and to do lists. The list grows endlessly.

Our goal should be to have a balance between the happiness that we derive from doing a task and the chore of doing the task because it is a responsibility. There is a threshold to how much we can take without having a burst of emotion(anger) in the process! Things go downhill after that threshold is reached. Relationships are questioned and the act of love is a mechanical process. We can achieve this if we take frequent breaks to manage the inner need for peace and the external requirement of doing it all with a smile.

This break can be an year of sabbatical, an year of introspection on why we are doing the things that are needed and so on. It can be an year of travel seeing the world from a different perspective. It can be helping a soul in need or anything that feeds the soul. It is a vital part of why we are living this cycle of life. Understanding and finding meaning in our everyday tasks is the goal of life. We will all achieve this but each person's comprehension will be different based on the life's experiences that he has faced and their reactions to the same. You can choose to be happy even in a difficult situation "not easy to do". Or you can choose to be sad while having the best of life's opportunities.

The choice is yours entirely!!!

  1. This is a meaningful summary of the day to day challenges faced in our modern living especially for those of us that balance our household responsibilities of being a mother, wife and a primary caretaker of household chores. It is very important to ensure that we don’t chase an ideal of being a superwoman if it does not fulfill us at an intrinsic level. It is so easy to be caught up in chasing goals that are unrealistic while feeling stressed and empty within.
If we make our physical, emotional and spiritual well being the most important factor, everything else will fall into place.
A daily gratitude journal that captures moments that gave us joy while reflecting on the lesson behind the moments that gave us stress, pain or frustration will go a long way in making powerful choices!
